Use something to protect your lips.
This includes lip gloss or balm. Lipstick doesn’t count! If you wear lipstick, it should have an outer protection of gloss. Keep in mind that some lipsticks will make your lips look flaky whether or not you have dry lips. Keep them glossed!
Lips are best soft and moist. I suggest putting on lip balm regularly at least three times a day and after each time you brush your teeth. Then, you will not have dry, chapped lips which could hurt the skin on the other person (and you!).
If you frequently have chapped lips, try to exfoliate your lips.
1. Rinse all of the toothpaste off your toothbrush with very hot or warm water. Make sure it is completely rinsed. Some toothpastes and mouthwashes may make your lips very dry or irritated.
2. Gently rub in a circular motion on the outermost of your lips. If you see a flake and it hurts to brush, don’t try to brush or peel it off.
3. Take your finger (not tube) and rub your lips with a generous portion of your favorite moisturizing lip balm. Concentrate on the areas on your outermost parts and corners of your lips. If any flakes still do not come off, do not force them to. This could cause inflammation and bleeding.
In an emergency....
1. Put on lip balm, move your lips back and forth to massage them for 30 seconds.
2. Blot any extra or displaced balm with a strong napkin or paper towel. This way your lips will be clean from leftover pieces of tissue paper that may tend to stick to your lips..
